DVD quality is fine
Yesterday I was re-watching the 1968 spaghetti western Death Rides a Horse. I have the movie on DVD but I saw it was also available on Youtube1 in supposedly a higher resolution than DVD. I wasted too much time trying to compare the two, but the difference was minuscule. In fact, the Youtube was worse in the aspect of providing a consistent picture. Some still shots may look slightly sharper, but there are still compression artifacts and it doesn't look as smooth as a DVD - even though the resolution technically is lower. A reliable picture wins.
Given the choice, Blu-ray quality is of course preferred, but a good movie will be good anyways and doesn't need 4K UHD to be an enjoyable watch. And I will from now chose a stable DVD quality picture over something with compression artifacts.
Grjngo westerns is a great source of many classic westerns that can be hard to find elsewhere.↩
