Feeling too old for memes

While memes in some form has been a part of Internet culture since the beginning, I mostly associate it with the rise of the simple text on image memes such as the condescending Wonka and I distinctly remember when those sort of memes flooded the internet spaces, as it marked a bit of a turning point for me. It was then that I fel like a new, younger, generation was starting to define online culture instead of my own. I found the new memes to be silly, low effort and not really funny once you have seen one or two variations of the same image with white text. So participating in this month’s Bear Blog Carnival on memes can best be summed up with:

fellow yell

I think this is the first time I have used a meme generator and posted it online. Of course, memes as a concept are more than those sort of white text on images, and reaction gifs or custom emojis have become an integral part of my working life. In Slack at work, everyone uses reaction gifs and custom emojis all the time. And of the common ones are the “this is fine”-dog for when things fail and the “all the things” for showing agreement or excitement.

fine all

So I guess those are my favorite memes.
