How I make time for personal interests
This month's Bear Blog Carnival Moose asks the open-ended question "How I..." and I was stumped for ideas, so I asked in our Discord and was asked to write about how I make time for hobbies while also having kids.
The short and boring answer is that it is mostly when everyone else is asleep. To get that to work, then of course plenty of regular house keeping needs to be done before, so the evening hours are actually free. That means cleaning the kitchen after dinner is not postponed but done immediately for example. And on Sunday when my wife takes them to their music lessons for a few hours, makes time for the weekly proper house cleaning. I don't have any more advanced methods or tricks like that, just consistent small efforts throughout the day that frees up the later evening hours. But as I have written about before, I don't have time for everything I want to do. I still feel like I am neglecting my life-long passion for reading science fiction, but is pointless to feel FOMO about those kinds of things.
