Laughable underwhelming AI features in smartphones

I haven’t been following whatever Apple has been putting out with their AI integration on iOS, as I don’t really plan on using it, but a story from The Verge with the headline "Adding calendar events with a screenshot is AI at its finest" almost made me laugh out loud with how hilariously underwhelming that is. Automatically adding calendar events through screenshots, doesn’t seem like the pinnacle of technological innovation.

In its own right it is a decent feature that might in some circumstances save people a few seconds per week, but it hardly seem like a problem that was waiting to be solved. iCal integration is pretty widespread already and easily creating a calendar event from only a date in a text message has been a thing for years.

I know this is cherrypicking, it is not the only somewhat useful AI feature on smartphones and AI technology as a whole is doing genuinely useful things, but this just screams a desperate attempt at forcing a solution onto a problem that barely exists. It is like technological innovation is working backwards now, where forcing AI onto problems that mostly just make it worse and require more resources to do the same.
