Q1 2026 notes

Another 3 months has passed, so I will do a quick lookback at the first months of the year.

πŸ“ƒ Blog:
Once again, most of my posts comes from participating in various blog carnivals. The highlight of course being my own on boredom which got way more submissions that I had anticipated, and it was a great learning experience to read through everything and write up the summary. My blog on science fiction short stories has only had three story reviews, which accurately reflect that I am really not doing a whole lot of reading at the moment.

🎞️ Movies:
I continue with close to a movie every night in my diary and it is still a great variety of genres and languages. I am allowing a bit more American movies than last year, with highlights being Marathon Man which went straight to 5 stars, and The Scarlet Empress that confidently has put Marlene Dietrich among the top of my favourite actresses of all time. I am also doing more rewatches now, revisiting old classics to see if they still hold up - like Unforgiven, Total Recall and The Good, the Bad and the Ugly. If there is a small theme, it is going deeper into the 1970s. Of course with even more poliziotteschi like CittΓ  violenta and Fango bollente, but also turning to American cinema of that decade with revisiting some of the Dirty Harry films and Three Days of the Condor. The Criterion Challenge is going well with about a third completed.

πŸ•ΉοΈ Gaming:
My gaming PC is barely getting any playtime, but we are playing more on the Nintendo Switch. I got Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and it has been an absolute blast to play with especially my youngest daughter. It is both very accessible and challenging, and she beats me often even though I try my best. Mario Kart continues to be a stable.

🧩 Jigsaw Puzzles:
A quick look at the puzzle log shows six pieces completed so far this year, with my favourite being the one with Mount Fuji.

πŸ’Ό Work:
Business as usual in a good way. Though our new office has been delayed due to water damage, so we will have to manage until summer. We have generally been able to focus on doing quality work and it really starts to show how much more we can achieve with a fully grown team. I enjoy going to the office every day.

πŸ‘¨β€πŸ‘©β€πŸ‘§β€πŸ‘§ Life:
The contrast to the busy December is really felt, with a whole lot of mostly nothing. A highlight worth mentioning was me and my wife going to see the Danish National Symphony Orchestra play a concert themed around AI and science fiction, so there was music from Blade Runner, Tron: Legacy, Back to the Future and The Terminator which brought me to tears. Right before easter, we took our sort annual family extended weekend to Lalandia, a big indoor waterpark in Jutland. This went really well with a good deal of activities such as bowling and climbing, restaurant visits and obviously fun with the big waterslides.
